Kittitas School District has decided to take advantage of a new program that provides up to the minute emergency closure information.
By logging on to www.schoolreport.org you will be taken to the Puget Sound Emergency Communication System (PSECS) network, which posts the status of Kittitas Schools if delays or closures are implemented. This link also provides parents the opportunity to sign up for automatic and immediate email alerts with the same emergency closure information.
Additionally, Kittitas School District will continue alerting local radio and TV stations with school closure information. The radio stations will announce changes in the school or bus schedule. They will not announce when school is operating as normal. Continue to tune in to the following stations on those mornings which seem to be questionable:
TV Radio
KNDO (NBC) Yakima KQBE 103.1 FM
KIMI (CBS) Yakima KXLE 95.3 FM, 1040 AM
KAPP (ABC) Yakima KXAA 93.7 FT
Also, a reminder to parents of walkers- We ask that you keep your children home whenever the start of school is delayed. Teachers are not on duty until fifteen minutes prior to the start of school, so there would be no supervised area for “early birds” to wait. Students that arrive early might have a long, cold wait until the start of school.
Although we do not like to cancel school or delay the start of school, the safety of our children must always be first priority. Should adverse driver conditions or a power outage force a change in school operating hours, www.schoolreport.org and local radio and television stations will be notified by 6:30 a.m. (usually prior to 6:00 a.m.).
